I recently saw the “Lord of the Rings” movies in the theater as a special rerelease. Seeing the hobbits in their under-the-hill little houses with round doors and traditional wood and plaster makes we wish I lived in one of those cozy Shire homes. At least for as long as the movie lasts.
Some folks take it much further than that. Like Simon Dale of Wales.
He built a house with his own hands for his family, very inexpensively, and with no building background. And he made it reminiscent of hobbit houses.
Here is what he has to say about his approach:
“This building is one part of a low-impact or permaculture approach to life. This sort of life is about living in harmony with both the natural world and ourselves, doing things simply and using appropriate levels of technology.”
Take a look and see for yourself one (full height) man’s little hobbit house in the country-side.
